JUDY PANCOAST AND WEIRD THINGS ARE EVERYWHERE!
THE GRAMMY NOMINATED CD COMES TO LIFE
Acclaimed children’s musician Judy Pancoast has a knack for looking at life through the eyes of a kid, and she knows that one need only look around to see that weird things are everywhere, as she proclaims in her Grammy-nominated CD’s titular song. Now Pancoast brings those weird things and more to life in a multi-media production featuring a dancing alien, a giant named “Bum-de-Bo” and a princess who loves to read, among other oddities. “Weird Things are Everywhere…LIVE!” dazzles audiences with clever, catchy songs, fun video presentations, costumed characters and energetic dancers, along with Pancoast’s high-octane personality, while encouraging kids to read their way across the U.S.A. through quality children’s literature.
With a colorful map displaying lots of weird things as a backdrop, Pancoast leads the audience on a musical virtual road trip across the country in search of real-life connections to children’s literature, interesting places to visit and just plain weird things. While “driving” through Illinois there’s a stop to visit the real-life Metropolis and see the 15-foot statue of Superman, assuring kids that it’s perfectly okay to read comic books as Pancoast launches into “Superman Can,” a musical tribute to her favorite super hero. Traveling through the wild west leads to a discussion of Tall Tales, with Pancoast telling her own musical tale of a giant she once met, accompanied by a fun animated cartoon of the friendly goliath; a “stop” at Graceland in Tennessee encourages children to read biographies, as Pancoast launches into a musical biography of The King of Rock and Roll; and a cartwheeling Midwestern prarie dog puts in a pitch for other non-fiction fare.
Of course, there’s mention of the weirdest thing in the land, the alien crash site in Roswell, New Mexico, which brings on a rollicking song and a real-life performance by a dancing alien who wants to learn to read.
“Weird Things are Everywhere…LIVE!” is a triumph of Pancoast’s wonderful imagination coupled with the work of some terrific graphic artists and a boatload of talent all around. It’s an event that must be experienced by families with parents who want to encourage their children to read, explore and grow wings …much like a certain 7-thousand pound pig carved from soap in Ohio. Weird things are, indeed, everywhere!
