Goffstown Boy Scouts, Stephen Swanick Jr. and Tanner Kantargis, recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. As members of BSA Troop 135 in Manchester, these young men have held leadership roles and each completed a project to earn scouting's highest rank. Beginning as a first grade Tiger Cub Scout with Pack 283 in Grasmere, they progressed through the ranks and were honored for their achievement during an Eagle Scout Court of Honor at Camp Carpenter.
Steve, son of Stephen and Lori Swanick, chose to benefit the Massabesic Audubon Society for his Eagle Project. He built a 4'x6" outside enclosure that would secure reptiles and amphibians while providing them with a sense of freedom within the elements of nature. The animals would then have a place, other than their home indoors, that would keep them safe and secure. The enclosure is located in a fenced in area next to the raven cage behind the Audubon Society's main building.
Steve is a 2010 graduate of Goffstown High School and is attending UNH-Manchester and working towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He will continue to be involved with Troop 135 as an adult leader.
Tanner Kantargis, son of Sue Kantargis of Goffstown and Steve Kantargis of Manchester, created a 410 foot long earth berm for the Goffstown Rail Trail. The berm protects the trail from water run off from the road which had been causing erosion to the trail. The landscaping makes the trail more inviting to trail patrons and it acts as a buffer from the highly trafficked Mast Road.
Tanner is a 2010 graduate of Goffstown High School and is attending NHTI in the Mechanical Engineering program. In his spare time he plays bass guitar with a few bands.
