High School FBLA Visits Mt. View

FBLA had a successful day at MVMS on April 6th.  A small sub-group of FBLA called the GHS Savvy Savers presented 4 short workshops to 7th/8th grade students on the importance of saving, budgeting and spending money wisely.  My students worked hard to create a great PowerPoint with current statistics and interesting facts.  Also, they had prizes and games to promote participation.  It appeared as though all of the MVMS kids enjoyed the experience and there was a very nice connection between GHS and MVMS students.  I have attached photo’s for your viewing pleasure.  :)

Goffstown High School FBLA

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) from across the state gather to participate in a number of worthwhile educational activities, which will assist them in leadership development as they prepare to become tomorrow’s business leaders.  This event is called the State Leadership Conference. The conference encourages its FBLA members to engage in friendly competition in any business category they choose.   In addition, it provides its members with one or more leadership sessions, keynote speakers, workshops, business sessions, campaign rally and the election of the NH FBLA state officers. This year, 13 FBLA members from the Goffstown High School chapter attended SLC, they were:

FBLA/Dream Catchers Yard & Vendor Sale

FBLA & Dream Catchers will be hosting a Yard Sale & Vendor Fair fundraiser at GHS in the café on October 8th from 8 am – 1 pm.

Future Business Leaders of America is a rapidly growing GHS club whose main goal is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.  Dream Catchers, a group founded in 1995 by two teenagers who struggled with disabilities, provides ongoing activities and the opportunity for kids who learn differently to meet others and develop friendships.  The fun will include:

GHS Future Business Leaders of America Celebrate at Block Party

GHS FBLA Group Markets New Merchandise at Goffstown's 250th Block Party

Goffstown High School Future Business Leaders of America hosted a table at the 250th Block Party event which featured new merchandise students selected as “spirit wear” for both Goffstown and the Goffstown High School.   Students purchased new t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, bracelets, lanyards and water bottles that attracted many Goffstown students and families alike.  “The idea behind FBLA representing at the block party was to have business students apply all of the business & marketing foundations they have learned in class, everything from surveying customers to see what products they would like, purchasing the products – working with a budget, marketing up the products to  produce a profit, merchandising the products, and selling the products hoping to create new business relationships with customers. These are all principles learned in business classes and it is great to see the kids apply them in a real world setting”, said Krista Scarlett, Business Education Teacher and FBLA Advisor.   All of the proceeds from this event will be applied toward the NH FBLA State Leadership Conference in April 2012 where students complete in a variety of business topics for prizes and scholarships. FBLA Hosts Selectman Scott Gross

Goffstown High School Future Business Leaders of America Welcomes Guest Speaker Scott Gross

Future Business Leaders of America hosts many guest speakers from our community throughout the school year and this year we were very excited to host town selectmen, Scott Gross.  Mr. Gross visited GHS on May 9th and spoke to Krista Scarlett’s FBLA group as well as her Personal Financial Management class on insurance topics such as: automobile insurance, health insurance, life insurance, disability insurance and homeowners and renters insurance.  The class was very captivated as Mr. Gross interacted with them and offered prizes for questions answered correctly on the various topics.  Risk management is one of the units covered in the Personal Financial Management course and having such a knowledgeable and experienced leader in this industry was very exciting for the group!

GHS/FBLA Host Boston Bruins #34 Rick Middleton

The GHS Future Business Leaders of America hosted Boston Bruins #34 Rick Middleton recently for an afternoon of sports memories and business advice.  The packed room was treated to a hockey highlights reel, then a discussion of Middleton’s many business ventures, including his 21 years with Manchester-based salon products distributor C.B. Sullivan.  Middleton offered advice to the students, “You should have a passion that gets you up in the morning.  You have to work your way up to being the best and your passion will get you there.”  Stories of business success were followed by amusing anecdotes about businesses that were not so successful.  “Here’s the most important lesson- never invest money unless you are prepared to lose it!”  Among his many successful endeavors, Middleton was a commentator for NESN, the President of the Bruin’s Alumni Association, and he’s currently building a new business supplying the Canadian favorite, Nifty Bars, to American food service companies.  The highlight of his career was the seven months he coached The U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team, taking the 6th seeded team from dead last to the gold medal at the 2002 Olympics.  Middleton’s visit to GHS was sponsored by FBLA Coordinator Krista Scarlett, who has led the group in many community outreach programs including providing free childcare during Town Meeting.

GHS Future Business Leaders of America Feature Leadership Discussion

Goffstown High School Future Business Leaders of America Future Business Leaders of America is excited to host Boston Bruins legend Rick Middleton on March 9th after school from 3:30-4:30 pm. Since his retirement from the Boston Bruins, Mr. Middleton has formed his own business in the food industry creating the much sought after “Nifty Bar”, headed a division of CB Sullivan Corporation, as well as working as the acting President of the Boston Bruins Alumni team. He is also heavily involved in charity work and enjoys speaking at public events. He will speak to GHS FBLA students on the topics of leadership skills, the rewards of being selfmotivated and entrepreneurship. Free Child Care at GHS for Town Meeting

Free Child Care –February 5th (Saturday)

The town meetings held here at GHS are very important events – many people are not able to attend these very informative meetings because they have children who cannot be left alone. Therefore, we have decided to provide free childcare so parents may attend and participate in the GHS town budget meetings. You are a very important part of this event! We need you to help with the following:

Bring games to play with the kids
Bring snacks
Take kids for walks around the building or to the
gym to play games
Bring in movies to watch

GHS FBLA Shines at 2010 State Leadership Conference

On April 1st and 2nd the GHS chapter of Future Business Leaders of America attended the annual State Leadership Conference held at the Radisson Hotel, Manchester, NH.  Sixteen GHS students attended the conference this year and participated in such events as: business related competitive events, various business related workshops, and a dance to benefit the Make-A-Wish foundation.  With over 400 attendees, GHS truly represented by taking FIRST place in the Accounting I competition (Marissa Fifield placed), SECOND place in the Accounting I competition (Mike Jutras placed) and SECOND place in the Introduction to Business competition (Paige Gladysz placed).  GHS also won the Honorary Chapter Award; this award is given to the chapter who engages in the most activities within a school year to benefit students and their school’s community.   A fantastic time was had by all and we look forward to old and new FBLA members attending SLC next year!

GHS Future Business Leaders of America Donate ALL YEAR

GHS Future Business Leaders of America members are having a successful year so far, and are accomplishing many goals. In October, FBLA raised money for the UNICEF foundation. $250.00 was collected through the Trick or Treat for UNICEF project.
In November, FBLA held a yard sale to raise money for the FBLA State Leadership Scholarship fund. The group is also very excited for our first field trip to Margarita’s Mexican Restaurant in December. Each year, Margarita’s Mexican Restaurant does a wonderful job hosting FBLA for the afternoon teaching us about leadership, management, and international business relations.
