Local Democrats, including state Senator Lou D’Allesandro, met on Tuesday, March 27 at the Saint Anselm College Institute of Politics to elect officers in the town committee and to organize for this year’s elections. Former U.S. Representative Carol Shea-Porter rallied the activists from Washington, D.C. via video conference.
The results of the caucus are as follows: Timothy McKernan – chair, former state Rep. Kevin Hodges – vice-chair, Lisa Jukes – treasurer, Kimberly Peace – secretary. At-large delegates to the Democratic Party’s state convention include Dick Bruno, Barbara Carbonneau, Reta Chaffee, Joann Duffy, and Reta MacGregor.
“Speaker Bill O’Brien has proven to be an ineffective and reckless leader in Concord, with the latest example being his blatantly unconstitutional vote yesterday on a blatantly unconstitutional redistricting plan,” said McKernan. “Democrats will win in November because the circus in Concord led by Bill O’Brien, and promised to be furthered by Ovide Lamontagne, has not focused on jobs and the economy as promised,” he added.
Kevin Hodges, who won a seat as state representative in 2008, is bullish on Democrats’ chances this year. “With presumably five seats for Goffstown, Democrats have a great opportunity in this high turnout, presidential election year to elect at least one if not more state reps,” he said. He continued, “voters are sick of the daily headlines created in Concord and want a return to civility and common sense solutions.”
All town officers and at-large delegates are able to attend the New Hampshire Democratic Party’s state convention on June 2 in Manchester.
