To the Editor,
We want to extend our sincerest thanks to the Goffstown Junior Baseball Board of Directors and President Jane Steckowych our host and benefactor for the day and the wonderful sponsors, teams, players, spectators, volunteers and donors that made our 8th Annual One Pitch-Slow Pitch Softball Tournament, held on Saturday, August 7, 2010, our most successful yet. The weather gods sent us a perfect day for playing softball and once again, for the 2nd year in a row, the New Boston Black Sox came through the loser’s bracket to beat the winner’s bracket finalist two times to take the tournament championship. The New Boston Black Sox, managed by Don Chambers beat the Diamond Dummies, managed by Corey Dearborn, by the scores of 2 to 1 and 3 to 0 to win it all, in two tightly fought contests.
In addition to the above mentioned teams, also participating were: 3rd place, Granite State Plumbing and Heating, Mgr. Rich Healy; 4th place, the Citizens of Goffstown, Mgr. Zach Cusson; 5th place, the Professional Fire Fighters of Goffstown, Mgr. Rich O’Brien; 6th place, the Friends of Babe Ruth Softball, Mgr. Bruce Rand; and 7th place, Grasshopper/New Dominion Landscaping, Mgr. Jon Morris and Tom Halle. It was a great turnout for a great cause.
As always, we had the wonderful support of the businesses and other organizations in our community a
Additional financial support was provided by the Grasshopper Garden Center as they donated 20% of all of their weekend sales to Crispin’s House. What a wonderful gesture this was and our deepest gratitude goes to Jon Morris and the Grasshopper Garden Center for their generosity.
The volunteers that participated in the tournament were invaluable to our efforts. Without them we could not succeed. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the following: Umpires: Greg Begin, Collis Adams, Bob Denison and from Crispin’s House, Gerry Bergeron and Kevin Georgantas. Concession support was provided by Christine Biron and Kelli Wanner from Goffstown Junior Baseball, Becca Sheaffer and Brittany Nassar from Crispin’s House VolunTEENS and Charlene Belanger and Lorie Goll from Crispin’s House. 50/50 raffle sales support was provided by Cameron Baines, Molly Baines and Samantha Biron. Set-up and support help was provided by Jason Goll and Sarah Stringer. Goffstown Junior Baseball’s, field maintenance director, Dennis Pinard did a wonderful job getting the fields prepared for the games.
As usual, we had great media support for the tournament again this year and we are very appreciative of the extensive coverage that we received from The Neighborhood News, GoffstownToday.com, The Goffstown Edge and Greater Manchester Sports. Thank you so much.
When all is said and done Crispin’s House is the ultimate winner. This year we will realize nearly $3,500.00 from the proceeds of the tournament. We are grateful for the continued support of the Greater Goffstown Community as we endeavor to provide the services and support to the youth and families of our area through the vital programs that we offer. As we struggle to raise the funds necessary to keep our programs operating, we know that we can always count on the good people in our communities to come through for Crispin’s House. They always do.
