Dear Patrons,
This is the season when we begin to look ahead at the
2009 budget and the demands being placed on the library by the
community. Right now costs and demand for services have increased in
2008 and our already tight budget is getting even tighter. In order
for us to be responsible and conservative we are cutting back so we can
pay for upcoming increases in heating oil and electricity. For
instance, we budgeted $2.12 per gallon for heating oil this year and we
already know we will be paying at least double that amount. We will
attempt to decrease our magazine subscriptions by half since those
price increases are exorbitant. Magazines that have limited
circulation will not be renewed this year. We will also discontinue
our lease of books in the cassette format since the available titles
are limited and the circulation has dropped over the past years. We
will also be looking at other ways to save money and prioritize our
services. We know these cut backs will inconvenience some members of
the community. Please call or email me with your comments and
suggestions.

DearReader is Growing!
DearReader.com is the service we provide that allows the reader to receive a five minute selection from a book every day for one week through their email. Then if you are interested in reading the rest of the book in its entirety request it through us. There are lots of different clubs you can join: fiction, business, audio, teen, mystery, nonfiction, romance, pre-publication, good news, and horror. DearReader also has new features that are sure to be popular:
Author Buzz: This is a great way for patrons to talk with authors and find new authors that allows them to discover new titles. Patrons can click on the link included in their Online Book Club emails and it brings them to Author Buzz. Once at Author Buzz, they will see the featured author for that week. Each author includes information about him or herself and provides a way for patrons to communicate with the author if they would like to learn more about that author. It's really fun for patrons because it is rare for them to have direct access to authors, and the authors also offer prizes that patrons can win each week.
Discussion Groups: We added a module that allows patrons from the Online Book Clubs emails to jump over to our message board. At the message board, patrons can discuss with other patrons 11 new titles being run in the Online Book Clubs each week. We moderate all the posts and everything is kept confidential. It's been very popular and we are currently working on making this module even easier for patrons to use. We are also adding
Read the Classics: Is another exclusive for the Online Book Clubs that features a classic book every other month. Readers can sample several chapters and enter to win over 50 prizes each month, including free books and book bags.
WINTER LIBRARY HOURS: Monday through Wednesday 9 am - 8 pm, Thursday 9 am - 6 pm, Friday 9 am - 5 pm, Saturday 9 am - 2 pm.
