Goffstown Old Home Day

Goffstown-Old Home Day in Goffstown is June 2nd, and there will be plenty to do for the whole family.  Goffstown Main Street is being joined by lots of local partners for a great day Downtown, and we hope you’ll come, too.  Start your day with a fun run from the Villa Augustina and their Race to the Villa 5K. Not into running?  Trot on over to the St. Matthew’s Yard Sale, the library’s book sale, or St. Lawrence’s pancake breakfast.        
            Booths open at 9 a.m., and that’s also when the first Trolley Tour kicks off. Tickets are on sale now at Goffstown Ace Hardware, Howes Pharmacy, and King Bowling Lanes for these great tours.  You won’t want to miss Dan LaRochelle’s history lesson!  Or, take a walk through the Downtown with Jim Beauchemin who will teach you about the buildings you pass by whenever you come down Main Street.
            Plenty of things to see and do, but we hope you’ll also participate!  Make something yummy for the Strawberry Cook-off, enter the Lip Sync contest (bring your iPod or a CD), or bring your decorated canoe or kayak down for the Wicked Wacky Watah Kraft Race at 2:30.  Cook-off and race entry forms are on our website, www.goffstownmainstreet.org.
            Lots of good food, lots of fun, lots of chances to see and do different things --- from ringing the Congregational Church bells to taking a chance at Meadow Muffin Bingo.  Charity events include a Shave-a-thon at Family Main Street Salon and a bone marrow donor drive at Putnam’s Waterview Restaurant.  Try out a kayak or stand-up paddle board from EMS.  Watch artists do their thing at Local Color, 35 Main Street. Enjoy live music at The Village Trestle and Apotheca.
            End the day with a free spaghetti dinner at Stark Hall courtesy of the Goffstown Congregational Church, and come back on Sunday for breakfast at the Oddfellows Hall to benefit the Goffstown Historical Society.  So much to see and do, you won’t want to miss a minute of it!

Goffstown Main Street Celebrates Golfers

The Goffstown Main Street Program thanks all those who supported our 10th Annual Golf Tournament, Friday, May 18th.   We had beautiful weather and excellent support from our local community.  First, we wish to thank our lead sponsors: Crossroads Collision Center, LLC; Eastpoint Rentals, LLC; and Bryan M. Fournier Landscaping and Irrigation.  We also wish to thank Unique Ford, Sully’s Superette, the Colburn Family, French and Rising Funeral Home, and Gordon Burns Insurance Agency for their support of our event.  Special thanks to the staff at Stonebridge Country Club, they are truly easy to work with, and a great help.  We had over 50 donors and sponsors, plus 108 golfers to make the day a financial success. Without a doubt, though, our biggest thanks go to our volunteers:  our coordinating team of Brenda Letourneau, Gale Cheever, Joe Martin, and Mike Walton; and our on-course helpers: Theresa Walton, Harold Pothier, Lorraine Pascucci, Bev Powden, Donna Arnold, and Cheryl Elliott.  This was truly a community-wide effort, and we appreciate all those who made the day a success.

Goffstown Celebrates Old Home Day, June 2

Goffstown Main Street Program invites everyone to join them for their annual celebration of Goffstown’s Old Home Day, Saturday, June 2, 2012.  The event takes place along Main Street and the river in Goffstown Village. The day kicks off with a new event sponsored by The Villa Augustina School, The Race to Villa 5K.  For details, visit www.villaaugustina.org.   St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church hosts their Spring Thing yard and bake sale opening at 8 a.m.  The Friends of the Goffstown Public Library will have their book sale on the library grounds also opening at 8 a.m.  The members of St. Lawrence Catholic Church host a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon. The breakfast benefits the parish’s food pantry.           

At 9 a.m., the booths open in the village area with food, history, and demonstrations.  New this year is a display by Goffstown Rotary Club of Shelterbox, a relief effort that the group supports.  Meanwhile, Goffstown Main Street brings back their popular Trolley Tour.  Dan LaRochelle will be narrating a tour of Grasmere and Pinardville.  “No one knows the history of Pinardville more than Dan, and we’re glad to have him back this year for another round of Trolley Tours,” said Robbie Grady, Executive Director.  Tickets will be on sale at King Lanes, Goffstown Ace Hardware, and at the Main Street booth on Old Home Day.  “Our other tour guide, Jim Beauchemin, will be hosting a walking tour of the Village from a Segway, and we’re excited about that.”         

In addition to the booths and tours, the Main Street Program will host performances, family games, and contests throughout the day.  Prizes will be awarded for Biggest Smile, Cutest Pigtails, and in a Lip Synch competition.  A strawberry cook-off takes place at Brown Graphix, and area cooks are invited to bring their best dishes to be judged.  Rules and entry blanks are on-line at www.goffstownmainstreet.org.

There will be a duck race and a Meadow Muffin Bingo to help raise funds for Goffstown Main Street Program.  The program works year ‘round on the local economy and historic preservation.  Each is a 50/50 contest, and tickets will be on sale at the group’s booth on the Common.            

Each year, the Main Street Art Team hosts a booth, but this year the team has opened a temporary gallery, Local Color, at 35 Main Street.  Local artists and artisans will be on hand to demonstrate their work which includes pottery, turned wood, photographs, bead work, quilts, paintings, and woodprints. “We’re excited about the gallery, and hope our community will support it --- for as long as we’re open!  This is a true pop-up, we aren’t sure how long we’ll be in this space,” said Grady.

Main Street ends their festivities with the 3rd Annual Wicked Wacky Watah Kraft race on the river at 2:30 p.m.  All are invited to enter with a decorated canoe or kayak.  There is a challenge course to be completed to win the trophy and bragging rights.  For details and a registration form, visit www.goffstownmainstreet.org. 

The Congregational Church of Goffstown offers guests the chance to ring the church’s bells and enjoy homemade pies during the day, then closes out the festival with a free spaghetti supper starting at 5 p.m. at Stark Hall on Church Street.

Pop-Up Gallery Opens in Goffstown

Goffstown Main Street Program’s pop-up gallery, Local Color, celebrates its opening with a coffee and dessert night, Friday, May 11th, 5-8 p.m. at 35 Main Street in Goffstown.  Visit with local artists and your friends while enjoying the creative efforts of your neighbors.  Patrons have the opportunity to buy original watercolors and acrylics, prints, photographs, collages, children’s handmade clothing, beaded jewelry, quilted items, turned wooden ware, pottery, and notecards.  This temporary gallery is open Fridays-Sundays.  For more information, contact Goffstown Main Street, 497-9933, or by email: info@goffstownmainstreet.org.

Goffstown Main Street Golf Tournament

It’s not too late to join the Goffstown Main Street Program’s 10th Annual Golf Tournament sponsored by East Point Rentals, LLC; Crossroads Collision Center, LLC; and Bryan M. Fournier Landscaping and Irrigation.  The tournament takes place May 18th at Stonebridge Country Club here in Goffstown.  Enjoy breakfast from Sully’s Superette before hitting the tees, and try to win a Ford Fiesta from Unique Ford.  The format is a scramble, and there will be prizes for longest drives and closest to the pin. All proceeds benefit the Goffstown Main Street Program’s revitalization efforts.  Registration fee is $120 and includes green fees, cart, breakfast, luncheon buffet, and prizes.  There are also wonderful door prizes available, too.  Registration forms are on-line at www.goffstownmainstreet.org or call 497-9933.

The Goffstown Main Street Program wishes to thank those who came out this weekend to help clear litter off our streets.  Selectman Collis Adams, Laura Adams, Peter Romein, and Goffstown Main Street Board Member Beverly Powden spent part of their day stooping and bending to pick up what others have left behind.  At the same time, we know the Goffstown Community Garden Club was at work on Mast Road.  Litter costs us all --- in money, time, effort, image, as well as damage to the environment.  We urge all of your readers to ensure our community is as welcoming as ever with clean streets and beautiful parks.  Thank you.

Attention all non-profits: if you would like a booth at this year's Goffstown Main Street's Old Home Day, June 2nd, please send an email to info@goffstownmainstreet.org requesting a vendor application.  Please use Old Home Day in the subject line. Food booths are assigned on a first-come first-served basis, so don't delay!  Organizations hosting booths with activities or demonstrations have their vendor fees waived.  For-profit registrations will not open up until May 1st.  Goffstown Main Street Program is located at 7 Main Street in Goffstown.

Goffstown Main Street Program Offers Thanks

Dear Editor,
 
The Goffstown Main Street Program Board of Directors joins me in thanking the voters of Goffstown for their support in last week’s Town Meeting.  We are grateful to all of you who believe in the work we are doing, and who have chosen to grant us tax dollars to continue our work of building our economy and preserving our heritage.
          
We do not take this responsibility lightly, we promise to do our best this year to continue to earn your trust by improving the physical, social, and economic health of our Downtown.  We hope you will visit us often to see how we are doing, and that you will feel free to let us know how you think we are doing.
 
We also thank the donors, guests, and volunteers who made last week’s St. Patrick’s Day Dance a success.  Our volunteers gave over 200 hours in support of this effort, and we cannot thank them enough.  We thank our host venue, St. Lawrence Catholic Church, for being so welcoming, DJ Etc. for providing great entertainment, and all the local businesses who played a role in the outcome.
 
Again, we thank all of our friends and supporters for what was a very exciting week.
