Youth Basketball: Youth basketball player registration is now underway. Basketball is offered to boys and girls in grades 1-8. Coed Instructional for grades 1 & 2 will play on Saturday mornings and will focus on fundamentals, fun, and the understanding of the game. Girls Jr. & Sr. Leagues for grades 3-8 will have 1 game and 1 practice during the week. Boys Jr. & Sr. leagues for grades 3-8 will have 1 weeknight practice and a game on Saturday. Both the Jr. & Sr. Leagues are fun yet competitive programs, all abilities are invited to participate. Registration fee for all youth basketball programs is $20 residents & $30 non-residents. Boys High School Basketball: This is a competitive basketball program for boys in grades 9-12 who do not currently play on a school team. Games will take place on Sundays starting in late December. All registration forms must be complete prior to participation in team selection. Deadline to register is 11/30. Registration fee is $55 residents & $65 non residents. Girls High School Basketball: This is a competitive basketball program for girls in grades 9-12 who do not currently play on a school team. Players will be assigned to a team, 4 teams are needed for this league. Games will begin in late December. All registration forms must be complete prior to participation in team selection. Dance: Professional dance instruction is offered specializing in ballet training. Classes in ballet, pointe, tap, modern, jazz, hiphop are offered at the pre-school level as well as junior and senior intensive programs. Classes for pre-school age children take place on Wednesdays and junior and senior intensive programs take place on Fridays. All participants work towards the Spring Performance. Registration has begun, call Robin at 680-1186 for fees and class schedule.
Volleyball: Co-ed Volleyball takes place on Wednesday evenings beginning at 7pm at Mountain View Middle School. This is an ongoing program throughout the year and the 2011 season will begin on September 21st. Anyone 16 or older and all skill levels are invited to attend. No pre-registration is needed. Session I-September 21-December 21/ Session II- January 4-April 11. Fee: $20 resident per session/$30 non-resident per session. Registration is ongoing.
Mens Basketball: This is a competitive basketball program for men ages 18 and older. Practices and games will take place on Thursday evenings at Mountain View Middle School. All participants will be assigned to a team with a schedule of games. Player registration, practice and team assignment will take place on October 6th & 20th beginning at 6:00 pm @ MVMS. Game schedule will begin on October 27th. Player Fee: $55 residents/$65 non-residents.
Barnard Park Parking: Parking permits for Barnard Park will be issued on a first come basis at the Parks and Recreation Building between the hours of 8:30am – 4 pm. Parking spots will be assigned on a first come basis. All applicants must have a current drivers license & registration. Space is available on a limited basis. Parking Fee for the 2011/2012 school year will be $50.
Mobile Mom’s Walking & Playgroup: Mom and tots walking group at Barnard park. Walk with your child for ½ hour and then head over to the playground for a little play time. Program will take place on Thursday’s @ 9:30am. This will be an ongoing program beginning September 15th. Come on down to the park for a nice walk and a little play time. All are invited to attend.
Senior Programs:
Tai Chi: Tai Chi will take place on Mondays 12:45pm for beginners and 1:30pm for experienced participants. An additional Tai Chi class will be offered on Mondays at 5pm, all are invited to attend. The fee for Tai Chi is $25 for a 4 week session. This hour long weekly class is perfect for anyone who wants a light fitness program, especially those with arthritis or who are de-conditioned. The class improves strength, flexibility and overall fitness as well as posture, balance and integration of body, mind and spirit.
Gentle Senior Fitness: This exercise class include 60 minutes of exercise: including flexibility, aerobics and strength. The class works on upper and lower body with an emphasis on lower body to improve strength and balance to prevent falls. There will be four sessions per month. Class will take place on Fridays at 10 am at the Parks and Recreation Building and is free.
Ceramics: Come and explore your creative side in a relaxed setting with everything you need to have some creative fun. No experience is necessary. The cost includes all materials, instruction, paints, brushes, etc., but does not include the bisqueware chosen to work on. Bisqueware to paint/glaze will be starting at $3.00 & up and can be seasonal, themed or other. Cost is $8 per class + the cost of bisqueware. Classes will be on Tuesdays from 10am-12pm and will meet on October 11, 18 and November 1. Preregistration is required by calling 497-3003.
Rail Trail Walk: Walks will start at the Parks and Recreation building and will vary in length depending on the needs of the group and will increase in length as the fitness capabilities improve. Bring a friend and enjoy the foliage. Wednesdays from 10am-11am. This activity is free and open to all seniors.
Cribbage Games: Bring a friend and enjoy some social time and challenge yourself to cribbage games held at the Parks and Recreation building every Thursday 9am-10:30am. Cribbage boards supplied.
Ongoing Programs:
Archery: Archery lessons will be offered at the Parks and Recreation building taught by Dana White on Tuesdays from 5:00-6:00pm. Lessons are taught in 4 week sessions and cost $50.
