The John Stark Stage Company's production of "Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" opens Thursday, November 11, at John Stark Regional High School in Weare.
This is the story of Joseph, who receives a magical rainbow coat from his father, Jacob. Joseph's 11 brothers aren't so fond of him- or his coat- and they plot to get rid of him once and for all by sending him to Egypt. There, Joseph rises up from common slave to Egyptian royalty.
The show is a "rock opera" so the entire story will be told in song. Students have been hard at work since July putting together this show. Students have given up their Saturdays and their study halls to help create the set and props, and the actors are rehearsing in the John Stark cafeteria for two hours a night, at least three nights a week. Rehearsals present a unique challenge for the actors. There are no lines to memorize- instead, they're leaning songs. They have to remember both where they're supposed to stand and the choreography for every song.
"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" runs on the John Stark stage November 11 to 14, with shows at 7 p.m. from November 11 to 13 and a 2 p.m. matinee on November 14. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and can be purchased at the door.
