Girl Scout Gold Award “Health and Hoops Basketball Camp” a Success!

    Seven expert guest speakers added healthy topics to five days of fun and intense basketball highlighted the “Health and Hoops Basketball Camp” held at the Villa Augustina Academy in Goffstown over April school vacation. 
        The healthy topics included stretching, heart disease prevention, nutrition, bike safety and skin care. The 25 campers all improved their basketball skills, and played in fun scrimmages while being coached by area youth coaches, and high school varsity athletes.   Girls, grades 4 through 7 attending the camp from 7 surrounding towns including Goffstown, Dunbarton, New Boston, Weare, Merrimack, Bedford and Manchester.
    Other special features from the camp included healthy snacks, and a camp t-shirt.  Proceeds from the camp are being donated to charity, and in addition the campers brought in canned goods which are to be donated to the Goffstown Food Network, and ‘mildly’ used shoes to benefit the poor in Haiti. 
    The camp was put on and directed by Rosalie Edmonds, a Girl Scout for 12 years from Troop 22628 in Goffstown.  She attends Goffstown High School in her Junior year and is a 3 sport varsity athlete playing field hockey and track and field, in addition to basketball. Rosalie is an “Ambassador Scout” and the “Health and Hoops Basketball Camp” was a project as she works towards her “Gold Award”, which is the highest award granted to a Girl Scout. 
    To qualify for a “Gold Award”, the project must be for the good of the community and needs to involve people in the community to carry it out. The Health and Hoops Basketball Camp Program addressed the important issue of healthy living and helped to show young girls the importance of living a healthy life.  It also tied in healthy living with being an athlete, and how living a healthy lifestyle can also improve your athletic ability.
    The girls went home each day tired, happy and with new friends.  They all improved their basketball skills and some commented, “it was well organized”…   “ I met many new friends, and also got to play ball with some girls I already knew”…. “The coaches were nice and I also enjoyed learning about nutrition.” Many also agreed with the statement of one player, “I liked the camp and think that it should be put on again and again.”

Dunbarton Garden Club Town Common Spring Clean Up Please mark your calendars for Saturday, May 19th, (with a rain date of Sunday, May 20th) and come on down to the Dunbarton town common for our yearly "clean up the common and planting day". We will meet at 8:00 AM at the bandstand. Coffee, water and snacks will be available. Bring your bug spray, work gloves, rakes and a strong back. Dunbarton Theatre Restoration Project

The Trustees for the Dunbarton Town Hall & Theatre Restoration Project
will be hosting an
Information Gathering Session
on Tuesday, May 15th at 7:00 pm
at the Dunbarton Town Hall (Dunbarton Public Library)

The purpose of the meeting is to give town residents the opportunity to contribute ideas for the Design Phase of this historical preservation project to bring back the Dunbarton Town Hall.
At this time, we are pleased to announce we are able to accept two grants making the Design Phase possible due to the overwhelming success of the recent “Extravaganza” Live & Silent Auction. The first grant is from the NH Preservation Alliance, which receives support from the NH Land & Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP), and the second grant is from the Hart Family Fund for Small Towns through the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Additionally, the trustees are delighted to have Corzilius, Matuszewski, Krause, P.A (CMK) join us as the architectural firm chosen to complete this phase of the project. CMK has extensive experience working with historical properties similar to this project. They will be available at the meeting for questions and general discussion.
