Weare Woman Shares Coupon Secrets

  Powerade for four cents a bottle?  Free shampoo?  Saving hundreds of dollars a month at the grocery store?  According to one Weare woman, all of this can be done and more, with the help of coupons. 
As people continue to rebound from the recent economic slump, they are still looking for ways to save money.  Kim Bergeron is sharing her expertise in coupon clipping with others by offering classes on how to make the most of their grocery dollars.
 Bergeron’s business, Extreme Coupon Professors, might be brand new, but she’s clipped coupons for her family for years.  When she began to help friends out with their shopping, she knew she was onto something.
“I thought, ‘why on earth am I not doing this during this during the day?’” Bergeron said.
Bergeron said TLC’s new show, Extreme Couponing, sheds some light on the lengths people will go to in order to save money, and it has brought couponing to mainstream America.
“Everybody’s talking about it, but they don’t know what to do,” Bergeron said.
Her idea is simple.  For a $20 fee, she will teach people everything she knows about couponing.  The classes are held in someone’s home, and the “host” receives free tuition and about $60 in free products, most of which Bergeron has paid little to nothing for.
“I’m stretching my coupons farther than you could imagine,” Bergeron said, noting that she often combines sales and double coupon offers in order to get more out of a basic coupon. 
She offers her students tricks of the trade, including how to maximize coupons and where and how to find the best deals, and each student leaves with a stack of coupons to get started.  
Bergeron is quick to point out that her classes aren’t “parties,” where people need to book classes from other hosts in order to get a benefit, and they aren’t obligated to buy something at the end of the class.
“You’re paying for education,” Bergeron said, “and you learn something you can use right away.”
Bergeron recommends that people start small, and do one or two “deals” at a time.  “It doesn’t have to be overwhelming,” she said.  “You can start saving with just one item.”
